Offering Workshops for your Hospital - Pilot Program

The Living Kidney Donors Network Workshops are offered through transplant hospitals and by organizations that support people with kidney disease.

The information provided in the Workshops is customized to reflect your hospitals policies and procedures. You approve all of the printed material handed out and the outlines and Power Point Presentations used. The Workshops are taught by your alumni, recipients and donors.

To start, the LKDN will oversee two Workshops and provide the following for their preparation and implementation:

  • The LKDN will meet with your staff, doctors, nurses, coordinators etc. to provide them with an overview of the Workshop. With this knowledge, the staff will inform their patients of the benefits of attending a Workshop and encourage them to sign up for one of the classes.
  • The LKDN will have one of their Corporate Coaches lead the Workshop.
  • Workshops will be limited to 15 people.
  • LKDN will coordinate with your staff to schedule the Workshops.
  • LKDN will provide you with the Power Point Presentation and any other documents that are used in or handed out at the Workshops for your approval.

The Hospital will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate scheduling and locations for the Workshops
  • Promoting the Workshops to your patients
  • Provide for the printing of materials that are used and handed out in the Workshop.

Additional items for review:

  • An evaluation form will be filled out by Workshop participants and reviewed with the hospital staff.
  • In addition to providing information about the Workshops to new patients, you are encouraged to invite patients on the waiting list.
  • The LKDN will work with you to contact nephrologists and dialysis clinics in your area to inform them of the availability of the Workshops. (Our experience is that nephrologists, and social workers from dialysis clinics are very interested in passing out this information to their patients.)
  • You are encouraged to have one staff member attend each Workshop
  • Prior to the Workshops, LKDN will work with you to contact your alumni, (recipients and donors,) to outline the Workshop and discuss their interest in becoming a Coach. The LKDN trains each Coach prior to their leading a Workshop. Someone interested in becoming a Coach may be invited to sit in on one of the Workshops.
