Tuesdays with … October 19, 2015
Here’s your Tuesdays with…. update for those in need of a kidney transplant and their advocates. You could use the following information and email to family members, friends and post on your Facebook page and other social media outlets. You could also include additional information about your health, progress and other activities. If this is your first Tuesdays with… update, click here to learn how to use Tuesdays with… to expand on your Kidney Kampaign.
There are disincentives for some people who want to be a kidney donor. i.e. travel expenses or lost wages from taking time off from work or their family or household responsibilities that they have and would need additional help during the recovery. The donor could be reimbursed for these expenses either directly by the recipient, fundraising events or from organizations that provide support for these expenses. Here’s a link to organizations that provide this type of financial assistance. http://www.lkdn.org/financial-assistance/index.html
Here’s what you could send to family members and friends to let them know about this issue.
HRSA (Health Resources & Services Administration) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to many other functions, HRSA provides funding and grants for the organ transplant community. It is the first time HRSA has provided funds for living donor education - which is a significant milestone.
Click here for the link to the newsletter that describes the grant in more detail. This newsletter is from the Living Kidney Donors Network. This non-profit organization helps those who need a kidney transplant find a living donor. Please read the newsletter. It provides information where you could write HRSA thanking them for this grant and encouraging them to continue and add more grant opportunities for living organ donor education. They are not asking for any money to support this cause.
Living kidney donor education is very important.
I thank you for your support.
